Fabrizio Romano reports that the chances of Leeds United bringing Marcelo Bielsa back to Elland Road this month is “unlikely”, despite the club still holding great admiration for his work at Leeds – with the board talking to other options.
The Leeds board have now decided to sack 49-year-old Marsch after a disappointing string of results. A year on from his hiring to replace Bielsa, Marsch has now lost his job – winning just two League games since last August.
Just four wins in the League, all season. That is despite a huge spending spree over the last couple of seasons. The likes of Georgie Rutter, Max Wober, Weston McKennie, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams and plenty more.
So, Leeds have bit the bullet and decided to axe Marsch. A decision many were hoping for, but did not believe would arrive – given the apparent show of faith in Marsch in January. In the likes of Wober, Rutter and Chris Armas’ arrival.
Romano reports chances of Leeds bringing Bielsa back unlikely
It is probably the right move. Both for Leeds, and for Bielsa. From Leeds’ point of view, we need a manager that is going to instill a new vigour to get some new-found energy out of the players. A relegation fight is very much on.
For Bielsa, why would he rejoin? He is obviously loved by all Leeds fans, and here, at LUN. But, why tarnish his legacy at Leeds in a potential relegation come the end of the season. Leeds need a manager quickly, but Bielsa? Best to avoid.
The current favourite is West Brom’s Carlos Corberan – who of course, worked under Bielsa at Leeds as assistant. He has starred in his role as Baggies boss, and did very well at Huddersfield. Other names are likely to come to the fore.
