Transfer expert Rudy Galetti has reported on Twitter that Leeds United are now in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, with a fee of £10m including add-ons on the table for the centre-back – replacing Max Wober.
Phillips, 26, is expected to be on his way this summer after managing just five outings with Liverpool last season. He is a player that Daniel Farke once wanted to sign at Norwich, monitoring his progress from a loan spell at Stuttgart.
That is according to Phil Hay, who broke the news that Phillips is a target for the Whites. A centre-back is expected to be the next signing, with Leeds already lacking in that position – and captain Liam Cooper suffering a new injury.
Although Phillips is likely to want a move away from Anfield after his lack of game time last season, Liverpool are under no pressure to sell – given he has a contract until 2025. Certainly, they will want their asking price met by us.
Now, it seems Leeds and Liverpool are close to an agreement. Galetti reports that the talks between the clubs are at an advanced stage ahead of a move that will set The 49ers back £10m – a fee which includes add-ons for Phillips.

Cooper’s injury has only highlighted, and exacerbated the need for new signings at centre-back. Going into this week, with Shrewsbury in the Carabao Cup approaching, Leeds only have two fit senior centre-backs available.
One of them has only played eight times for Leeds, his eighth outing coming off the bench on Sunday – in the form of Charlie Cresswell. Jeremiah Mullen, Kris Moore and Diogo Monteiro are all U21 options. We need a new signing.
