Joel Piroe has been told he is capable of doing something that no other Leeds United player can after his late performance against QPR.

Leeds United picked up a vital three points in the Championship title race on Saturday with a dominant 2-0 victory over QPR.

After a disappointing defeat to Millwall in midweek, it was crucial Daniel Farke’s side bounced back to winning ways and they did so in comfortable fashion.

QPR didn’t even muster a shot on target of their own with strikes in either half from Player of the Match Jayden Bogle, at least in LUN’s player ratings, and Joel Piroe securing the win.

With Sunderland dropping points and Burnley and Sheffield United not playing until Sunday, Leeds have climbed up to second place in the Championship table.

Though Bogle and Brenden Aaronson were Leeds’ best performers, Piroe impressed with his display off the bench and Leigh Bromby doesn’t think anyone else on the field could have scored his goal.

Leeds dominated the entire game but had been unable to find a decisive second goal, leaving the Elland Road faithful nervy as QPR tried to threaten in the closing stages.

But Piroe ensured the result was secure in added time when he latched on to the ball inside the box and evaded a challenge before gently dinking the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper.

Former Leeds man Bromby loved the goal. He told BBC Radio Leeds: “Fantastic finish taken with the outside of his left foot.

“It is probably only him on the pitch who can come up with that type of finish. Excellent. On the angle, dinks it over the keeper, Schmidt does really well actually to cut inside, finds him with the pass.

“He gets a little bit of luck with the deflection, but the finish is outstanding.”

Piroe goes back ahead of Mateo Joseph in the pecking order

Piroe had been dropped to the bench after a couple of underwhelming displays, with Mateo Joseph starting up front ahead of him.

The Spaniard failed to grasp his opportunity, though, and was hooked for Piroe in the 71st minute.

It didn’t take long for Piroe to go closer to scoring than Joseph had managed all game and he went on to grab his sixth goal of the season.

Piroe will surely get his starting berth back after the international break.
