Joe Gelhardt has provided a glimpse of his undeniable talent in Sunderland training with the Leeds United forward scoring an outrageous overhead kick – after being set up by Jack Clarke.
It is fair to say that Joe Gelhardt‘s loan spell at the Stadium of Light has been a tricky one. He has struggled to lead the line for Tony Mowbray’s men having been tasked with playing up front alone in the wake of Ross Stewart’s long-term injury.

The 20-year-old has only managed one goal so far in the Championship. But that is not for the lack of trying.

And it is certainly not for the lack of quality.

Of course, Gelhardt has long been tipped for big things at Elland Road. Leeds fans know just how good he can be. Few will ever forget his crucial winner against Norwich, or the way he danced past several Wolves players to win a penalty last season. And he was unbelievable up front leading the line in the first-half at Tottenham.
So no Leeds fan will be surprised by what Sunderland have now posted on their Twitter account.
In the clip, Gelhardt is set up by Jack Clarke. And he produces a stunning overhead kick to leave some of his teammates stunned. One drops to his knees with his hands on his head…
It turns out the man who set Gelhardt up was Jack Clarke, the former Leeds winger. And he can be heard joking that the delivery was crucial.
There is no question that Gelhardt’s chances of making the grade at Leeds have probably been dealt a blow this season. He would have been desperately hoping to kick on this year and become a more prominent member of the first-team.
However, there is absolutely no chance we are going to write Gelhardt off at this stage. It does not feel that there are many players around capable of producing such a sweet strike.
