Max Wober was paraded around Elland Road on Wednesday night ahead of Leeds United’s draw with West Ham – and Jesse Marsch told his press conference what Leeds fans can expect from our latest arrival, when he takes to the pitch.

Wober, 24, joined Leeds in a deal that is worth £11million in initial fees – but could rise to as much as £17.5million. The defender is expected to make his debut against Championship side Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round this weekend.

He was unavailable to play last night, which came around 36 hours after signing. Leeds have now signed four players from the Red Bull umbrella, and three from Salzburg. Wober reunites with Brendan Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

Of course, Marsch has worked with the Austria star at Salzburg. He told media after the 2-2 draw with West Ham what Leeds fans can expect from Wober going forward – with the versatile defender likely to feature in the next few days.

“Leader. Intelligent. Gifted. Play multiple positions. Use him LB or like Pascal. Like a six. Getting him up to speed. Potential to play Sunday. Looks fit, knows the principles of how we want to play,” Marsch said, as per Leeds Live.

It looks a bit of a coup, on the face of it. Mail+ recently reported that Leeds beat Jose Mourinho and Roma to lure Wober to Elland Road. Able to play on the left, as a centre-back or even in midfield – he is also good from set-pieces.

Leeds take on Cardiff on the weekend, the kind of game that looks like a bit of a banana skin. It will be a tough test for Leeds to show they are the Premier League side and come through the game without any drama. Wober should start.
