Jesse Marsch says Leeds could be without eight players against Liverpool on Saturday

Jesse Marsch has told Thursday’s press conference – as per the Leeds United’s YouTube – that he could be without eight first-team players on Saturday evening when he takes his side to Anfield to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Marsch is under enormous pressure. After a winless run of eight Premier League matches, the club have slipped into the relegation zone. The American boss now faces Liverpool, with the odds firmly stacked in Liverpool’s favour.

The Reds did lose to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League last time out. But they rallied on Wednesday night, going to The Netherlands and hammering Ajax 3-0 away. They will have their tails up at Anfield on Saturday.

The chances of Leeds ending their four-game winless run was always going to be hard against a very-talented Liverpool side. But now, Marsch says he could be without eight players – five of which have been regularly involved.

The manager says Adam Forshaw and Stuart Dallas are definitely out. Leo Hjelde is questionable, while Liam Cooper, Rodrigo, Luis Sinisterra, Joe Gelhardt and Tyler Adams have issues. They will be checked on in the next 48 hours.

“Stuart and Adam are still out. Leo is questionable, Joffy, Rodri, Luis, Liam and Tyler are all a little bit in question and we’ll see how the next 48 hours goes for those players,” Marsch said, during his press conference on Thursday.

What a blow. Just when Marsch needs his team to be fighting fit as he fights for his future, he sees as many as five first-team regulars potentially miss out. Adams is arguably the biggest loss. They missed him dearly last Sunday.

Sinisterra is also a blow – but there are replacements. Crysencio Summerville scored after coming on against Fulham and he is likely to come in. Gelhardt has been on the bench, while Patrick Bamford will surely replace Rodrigo.

In defence, if Cooper is missing, you would expect Diego Llorente will replace Robin Koch in the middle of the defence. Of course, this is hypothetical ahead of the match – and it might be that a couple are declared ready for Saturday.
