Jesse Marsch has responded in his post-match press conference when asked how much Leeds United star Willy Gnonto is now worth – after scoring a brace for Leeds against Cardiff, his second and third for the club, after his £4m move.

Gnonto, 19, nabbed a brace as Leeds cruised past Championship side Cardiff City on Wednesday night. Scoring inside 30 seconds, Italy ace Gnonto produced a Paulo Di Canio-esque volley from a cross-field Rodrigo pass to score our first.

Rodrigo made it two after a lovely ball from Jack Harrison. Then, Gnonto made it three, cutting inside and lashing an effort past Jak Alwnick at the near post. Gnonto now has three goals and an assist in 10 games – only starting seven.

Gnonto was bought by Leeds for £4m from Zurich. A player that Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta had originally planned to sign this month, or next summer. But with Dan James leaving, Leeds had to bring in a replacement in the summer.

Cody Gakpo was close, while Bamba Dieng was due to fly in for a medical. But Leeds signed Gnonto, and it appears to be a masterstroke. Marsch was asked after his brace against Cardiff what his value is now – even ten times our outlay.

“More than £4m,” Marsch said. Asked if it was tenfold, he continued: “Always hard to say. Transfer market has different values. As a manager, I like working with young, explosive attacking talent. I try to provide them with confidence”.

What a signing Gnonto has been. Orta has been responsible for some wonderful signings. Raphinha for £17million, before selling him for more than three times that is a prime example. Jack Harrison at £11million has been superb.

Illan Meslier for £5million, Pascal Struijk as a youngster from Ajax, Joe Gelhardt, Sam Greenwood and more. But Gnonto has the potential to be the best of the lot. He has only played 10 games, but he looks unstoppable already at this level.

If offers of £40million came in for Gnonto, you would hope that Leeds would reject offers. But what is for certain, is that Gnonto is already a bargain at £4million and Leeds have a serious talent on their hands at Elland Road.
