Jermaine Jenas has praise for one Leeds player during 4-1 defeat to Tottenham

Leeds United suffered relegation to the Championship after a disappointing display in a 4-1 loss to Tottenham on Sunday – but Jermaine Jenas reserved praise for one Leeds player in Adam Forshaw, during BT Sport commentary.

With Leeds needing a win – and requiring Everton to lose and West Ham to get a result at Leicester – Harry Kane scored after 93 seconds. It did not get much better from there on in. Everton and Leicester both secured victories.

Pedro Porro, Kane again and Lucas Moura got the goals for Spurs – while Jack Harrison netted with his right foot for Leeds. A poor showing, symptomatic of our season – and one that did not actually matter in the long run for Leeds.

So, after a 16-year wait, Leeds are back in the Championship after just three years of Premier League football. Jenas though did have some praise for one Leeds player on Sunday, and it was for Forshaw – who was probably our best.

“Forshaw is the one player in this Leeds team that has got a bit of both. A bit of bite and energy, but he can play too. He’s a decent player, he can knock it around – the rest need to get on board,” Jenas said, during the first half.

Forshaw produced a decent performance – as Jenas says, one of the only Leeds players to show a mix of fight and quality. With Leeds going down, they simply have to extend the midfielder’s contract – especially on this showing.

Indeed, Forshaw has already made it clear he would love to sign a new deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season. Leeds must keep him at Elland Road this summer, one of the first priorities whoever is in charge.
