Jermaine Beckford has told LUTV’s pre-match show ahead of Wednesday night’s clash against Shrewsbury Town that he has been “really impressed” with new Leeds United star Ethan Ampadu – describing him as “so composed”.
Ampadu, 22, has played every minute of our first two games so far. Starring in the middle against Cardiff, he was used in central defence against Shrewsbury. At half-time, with Leeds losing, he was put back into central midfield.
He will be one of the first names on the team sheet on Saturday when Leeds travel south to take on Birmingham City in the Midlands. Leeds will be keen to build on their first competitive win since April – and Ampadu will be crucial.

Leeds icon Beckford was speaking ahead of a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury, stating how impressed he had been with our Welsh midfielder. He even said Ampadu is surprisingly good in the final third, more than capable of shooting.
“Since pre-season, his first game, I’m really impressed. He’s 22, but he’s so composed in and out of possession. That comes with playing for the last couple of years. His passing ability is smart, keeps it simple when he needs to.
“He’s not bad in front of goal – he’s got a decent shot on him. He is good at adjusting his body, breaks up play, really impressed with what I’ve seen so far. Positive movement, beyond his years. But I want consistency,” Beckford said.

Ampadu has that aura about him. He knows he is one of the best players in this team. Already, one of the leaders. It is a good arrogance, not a cockiness and Leeds need that if we are going to go and win the Championship title.
Leeds need more players like Ampadu and the signing of Joe Rodon is an example of that, a wonderful signing in the middle of the defence. He has that confidence. Now, a left-back, and new signings in attack, please Mr Marathe.
