On Saturday, Javi Gracia used Leeds United star Jack Harrison in a midfield three at Arsenal but on Tuesday night, the Spaniard has got to play him on the left flank as the Whites look to bag three points against Nottingham Forest.
Harrison, 26, has been in incredible form in recent matches. He has two goals and two assists in the five Premier League games Gracia has taken charge of, so far. That is despite playing in a number of different positions, so far.
On the left flank, as a no.10, on the right or even as we saw on Saturday, more of a no.8. Gracia used Marc Roca as the sitting midfielder, with Harrison and Rasmus Kristensen either side. Now, Leeds await Forest at Elland Road.
It is easy to see where Forest’s threat will come from. Morgan Gibbs-White is a talented player that can create something out of nothing. But Brennan Johnson got his eighth Premier League goal of the season on Saturday.
The Wales star has been in wonderful form this season. Leeds do not have to think back too far, when he scored the only goal of the game at the City Ground as Forest won 1-0. Leeds have to pay him extra attention, and respect.
Gracia has got to use Harrison on Leeds left against Nottingham Forest
In order to combat his pace, skill and goals – Gracia must double up on him. So, instead of using Harrison – who is renowned for his work rate and willingness to get back – in midfield, he should be deployed in front of Junior Firpo.
Recently, Firpo said it was “unbelievable” to have Harrison on his team. Firpo also said that Harrison is one of the best in the world when it comes to helping out his full-back. Gracia must put that into practice on Tuesday night.
Cree Summerville, or even if fit, Willy Gnonto are good from the left. But they lack the defensive work rate that Harrison is willing to put in. Harrison combining with Firpo in stopping Johnson nullifies Forest’s biggest asset.
