Javi Gracia has told his post-match press conference – as per Leeds Live – that Georginio Rutter was at times left isolated by his Leeds United teammates during the 2-0 FA Cup defeat to Fulham on Tuesday night at Craven Cottage.
Rutter, 20, clocked up his seventh appearance for Leeds. But only his second start for the club – both of which have come in the FA Cup. He was unlucky not to open his account for the Whites, especially in the first half in West London.
First, Rutter had a goal disallowed after Joao Palhinha had put Fulham ahead. The referee adjudged Weston McKennie to have committed a foul before heading a corner at goal. His effort was parried, and Rutter was on hand to tap home.
But, it was ruled out. Then, later on in the first 45, a brilliant header from Rutter kissed the bottom of the post. Rutter was withdrawn after 63 minutes and replaced by Patrick Bamford. Gracia says he felt his Leeds teammates isolated him.
“When we were attacking, sometimes he was alone. Like the rest of the players, they had a good level. Only thing is improving the chances we have,” Gracia said when asked about his thoughts on Rutter’s display, as per Leeds Live.

Gracia: Rutter left isolated by Leeds teammates during defeat to Fulham
Clearly, Gracia wanted the likes of Willy Gnonto – who was surprisingly poor on the night – and Crysencio Summerville to get nearer his man. McKennie played as more of a no.10, but given it is not his natural position, that was a factor.
Leeds are still learning under Gracia and there were positives to take from the loss. Leeds had chances and had we been even as half as clinical as Fulham, we would have won the game. Now, attention turns to Saturday, and Chelsea.
