Javi Gracia has told Friday’s press conference – as per the Leeds YouTube – that he does not want to give much away in terms of tactics – but named a number of formations he could use as Leeds United take on Southampton.
Gracia was finally given a work permit on Friday and he took the press conference ahead of this weekend’s match. Leeds, who sit in 19th place, face 18th-placed Southampton. We desperately need our first win since November 5.
Plenty has been made about the way Gracia’s teams played while at Watford, his other spell in the Premier League. Mostly, a 4-4-2 system that was converted into a 4-2-2-2 system with inverted wingers and attacking full-backs.
Gracia was asked about the tactics he will deploy in his first match as manager. But he kept his cards close to his chest, even refusing to divulge information on injuries. He named a number of systems he could use on Saturday.
“We try to play well. Then, after we can speak it. We want the players to feel comfortable, secure. Fans to enjoy the team. Have to find balance – 4-4-2, 3-4-3, 5-3-2, whatever. There are more important things than these numbers.”

While it might be none of the above, it is likely that Leeds revert to a 4-4-2. Leeds have used a four-man defence for a number of years and instantly reverting to a three-man defence in a huge clash could be too much of a risk.
