Javi Gracia comments on Leeds star Adam Forshaw after return against Crystal Palace

Adam Forshaw was back in the Leeds United squad for the 5-1 defeat against Crystal Palace and Javi Gracia has responded in his latest press conference on Friday afternoon, when asked about the midfielder’s return to fitness.

Forshaw’s injuries have continued throughout 2022-23, managing just six appearances for Leeds this term. His last outing came in the 0-0 draw against Newcastle, in which he was substituted at half-time. But Forshaw is now back.

An unused sub against Palace, Forshaw’s return is timely with Tyler Adams likely to be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his hamstring. Leeds only had two senior central-midfield options left in the squad.

Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi have just three senior outings between them. So, having an experienced head on the bench and ready to play is great for Leeds, ahead of Monday’s clash against Liverpool. Gracia discussed Forshaw.

“Adam is back from a long-term injury and it is good news for us. Having him train everyday is healthy for the group. He is a centre-midfielder and as you know, we don’t have many options in that area. So it is good news for us.”

Having that cover on the middle of the park will come as a big sigh of relief to Gracia, who now has a trusted option to use off the bench if needed. Marc Roca and Weston McKennie are to be relied upon, but Forshaw can come in.

It gives McKennie and Roca the chance to have a bit of rest towards the end of a match if required. It also gives the Leeds gaffer a chance to pack the midfield if he feels he needs to do so with the £4.5m man, against Liverpool.
