Jamie Shackleton has praised Leeds United teammate Charlie Cresswell after he netted his first international goal on Monday night.
Cresswell posted on Instagram to express his pride at opening his account for England’s U21s, to which Shackleton responded.
The 21-year-old has been a key part of the Young Lions’ setup for almost two years now, winning 14 caps for the U21s after making his debut against Czech Republic in November 2021.
He was apart of the squad that also lifted the European Championships in the summer, sporadically contributing to a defence that did not concede a single goal throughout the tournament.
During his loan spell at Millwall, Cresswell made quite a name for himself as a goalscoring defender, netting five times in his 30 matches for the Lions, which prompted his former boss Gary Rowett to hail him as ‘brilliant’ ahead of his return to the Den with Leeds in September.

However, Cresswell was still searching for his first goal on the international stage with England, which finally arrived against Ukraine on Monday night.
Cresswell headed in an equaliser one minute from time which had looked as though it would salvage England a 2-2 draw, before they then conceded a late winner in stoppage time, but that did not stop Shackleton from praising his club teammate.
Shackleton and Cresswell will have grown close with one another over the last 12 or so months, having spent the season on loan together at Millwall.
Despite the events that followed, his first goal for England will no doubt have been an extremely proud moment for Cresswell, that he will never forget.
From a Leeds point of view, it is good to see him get back-to-back 90 minutes under his belt on international duty given his lack of game time at club level recently.
