Joe Rodon has completed a season-long loan move to Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur and the Wales star took to Instagram after the transfer was done – prompting reaction from James Maddison and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Rodon, 25, returned to Spurs this summer after a year at Ligue 1 side Rennes – where all in all, he struggled. Having started the season first choice and scoring his first professional goal, a string of indifferent displays saw him axed.

He now returns to Spurs, who have just signed Micky van der Ven from Wolfsburg for the best part of £40m. It has seen Rodon move further down the pecking order – with Leeds needing a centre-back, the Whites have pounced.

Rodon has agreed a season-long loan move to Leeds with Liam Cooper injured – and the Yorkshire club seeing the likes of Max Wober, Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente and Robin Koch all exit. Additions at centre-back was key.

The defender has taken to Instagram to underline his delight at agreeing a move to what he describes an “iconic” football club, in Leeds United. He also says he is looking forward to meeting the team, and playing at Elland Road.

Clearly a well-liked member of the Spurs side, Rodon will now be desperate to kickstart his career – which has stuttered somewhat since swapping Swansea for Tottenham. He needs to play regularly, and perform to his best.

At Leeds, he can do that. In a division he knows well, alongside Wales teammates Dan James and Ethan Ampadu, the stage is perfectly set for Rodon to shine. Maddison and Hojbjerg responded, as did Belgian ace Arthur Theate.
