James Justin says Leeds United have something not many other teams in ‘world football’ have

Leeds United have now announced their tenth signing of the summer window and it sees Daniel Farke finally get his wish, as James Justin arrives to provide more cover at full-back.

Farke has publicly stressed the need for more cover at full-back with Isaac Schmidt expected to leave the club before the deadline. Schmidt is now in limbo, after Werder Bremen signed Yukinara Sugawara.

But Leeds have strengthened at full-back with the addition of Justin, who, instead of just being back-up, will provide top-flight competition to Jayden Bogle and Gabriel Gudmundsson. Justin has England caps.

Along with that, he brings huge experience in the Premier League after his time at Leicester. The full-back has signed a four-year contract at Leeds and becomes the club’s tenth signing of the summer window.

James Justin makes big claim about Elland Road atmosphere

As is customary with Leeds’ new signings, Justin has been speaking to the LUTV cameras and Bryn Law today ahead of his move being confirmed. Typically, he spoke about the club’s big home atmosphere.

Justin says the Leeds atmosphere is one of the best in “world football” and instead of coming to Elland Road, which he deemed a “daunting” prospect for away sides, he is delighted to have them on his side.

“I’m excited. The stadium has got one of the best atmospheres in, I don’t know, world football. It is always a daunting task to come here with an opposing team, I am happy to have the fans behind me this time.”

James Justin signing could get the best out of Jayden Bogle

For now, Bogle and Gudmundsson will remain first choice. But Bogle, more so than Gudmundsson, will know that behind him is a player with 99 Premier League appearances under his belt and an England cap.

Bogle is sure to start on Saturday against Newcastle, but Justin will be pushing. It will either keep Bogle on his toes and help get the best out of him, as he so often showed under Farke during 2024-25.

Or Bogle may buckle under pressure and allow Justin in. Leeds no longer have back-up on each side of the defence like Sam Byram or Schmidt. They have competition and a player that is proven at this level.
