Jaidon Anthony has told Leeds United’s official podcast that his loan move from Bournemouth really did not happen until the last minute – only hearing of news from his agent, five minutes from Brentford.

Anthony, 23, had travelled with the Bournemouth squad on deadline day. He had started Bournemouth’s opening two Premier League games and come on as a sub for 30 minutes in the third, a loss to Spurs.

So, he would have been preparing to be involved and potentially start against Brentford on September 2. A day after the deadline. A game which ended 2-2 in London. Anthony boarded the coach to Brentford.

But he tells Matt Lewis and Michael Bridges that five minutes from arriving at Brentford, he receives a call form his agent that says he is joining Leeds on loan for 2023-24. He says he had to have a think.

“It was a Friday, travelled down to Brentford – trained in the morning. Nothing about a move, preparing for the game as normal. Five mins before we got to the hotel I got a call from my agent,” Anthony said.

“He said the move had come about. I had to think about it. Then, a load of phone calls during the day. It didn’t get done until the last minute but I am really excited to be here,” Anthony added, on his move.

Really solid signing. If Leeds were going to lose Luis Sinisterra, then bringing in Anthony is a really adept replacement – he’d surely be on the list and quite high up, even if he wasn’t playing for The Cherries.

His goal against Watford comes after carrying a threat in each of his sub outings – previously against Millwall, Hull and then the Hornets on Saturday. He is pushing for a start at Southampton this weekend.
