Saturday afternoon not only saw Leeds United suffer their first Championship defeat of the season, but it also saw Jaidon Anthony return to Elland Road for the first time after his departure in the summer.

Leeds had remained without defeat in their four Championship fixtures going into Saturday’s clash with Scott Parker’s Burnley, while also keeping three clean sheets in a row. Both of those runs came to an end.

One goal was the difference. A slip from Manor Solomon while Leeds were on the attack allowed Burnley to counter and Luca Koleosho slotted a well-placed effort past Illan Meslier into the bottom corner.

It proved to be the only goal of the game in what was an important Championship fixture between two sides expected to push for promotion this season. Anthony lasted the entire 90 minutes on Saturday.

Anthony sends message to Leeds United fans and Gnonto

Anthony of course, joined Leeds on loan little over a year ago. His arrival came in the final few minutes of deadline day, with Luis Sinisterra joining Bournemouth on loan before his £20m permanent signing.

He clocked up 38 appearances for Leeds, but only six starts under Daniel Farke. He had a hand in just four goals for Leeds, and has since joined Burnley on loan from Bournemouth, reuniting with Scott Parker.

Anthony proved to be a thorn in new signing Jayden Bogle’s side, as the right-back’s struggle at Elland Road since his £5m move continues. He posted a message to Leeds fans, and Gnonto after a yellow card.

Anthony joked: “Dominant performance. All jokes aside, top character shown to get that +3 and good to be back at Elland Road. Willy Gnonto, I thought we was still cool bro.”

Bogle given a torrid time by Anthony as struggle continues

The £5m arrival from Sheffield United has been guilty of mistakes since his arrival at Leeds. The penalty against Portsmouth, a rash yellow at West Brom, struggling to keep his man quiet at Hillsborough.

Andy Hinchcliffe said Bogle was “all over the place” in the 2-0 win over Wednesday. After the win over Hull, former Leeds manager Neil Redfearn described Bogle as “hit and miss” with and without the ball.

On Saturday, it was arguably Bogle’s decision not to close Koleosho down until the last minute that allowed the Burnley star to go on and score. Though it was a super finish from the Burnley player.
