Leeds United have confirmed that Jack Harrison has signed a new contract at Elland Road after almost leaving the club in January to join Leicester City – and Victor Orta has heaped praise on the winger, following confirmation.

Harrison, 26, scored his third goal in six games since the arrival of Javi Gracia on Tuesday night, helping Leeds beat Nottingham Forest. Since the arrival of the Spanish manager, Harrison’s importance has grown in this Leeds side.

But it comes after the ex-Manchester City and New York City star almost left Leeds. Indeed, Harrison was two hours into a medical at Leicester after Leeds had accepted a £22m offer, only for Leeds to pull the plug (The Telegraph).

He has now penned a new deal at Elland Road and not just any deal, but a contract that keeps him in Yorkshire for the next five and a half years – until June 2028. A mammoth deal – and Orta has heaped praise on the Leeds no.11.

“Jack is a crucial part of our squad and our plans going forwards and I’m really happy he has agreed to commit his long-term future to the club,” sporting director Orta told Leeds United’s official website after Harrison’s new deal.

“He is one of the most professional players I have come across in my career, he has an unbelievable attitude and only wants to continue improving and I know we will see him at his peak over the duration of the next five years.”

It is brilliant news for us Leeds fans to see Harrison finally pen a new deal and commit his future to the club. His form in recent matches has been exceptional and Gracia is seemingly getting the best out of the Englishman.

In terms of his nationality, you would imagine that an England call-up might be forthcoming if this kind of form is still being produced come the end of the season – ahead of the June internationals. Maybe, a late shot for Euro 2024.
