After a stunning start to life in the first-team, it was no surprise that Jack Clarke stayed in the Leeds starting lineup for the trip to Rotherham.
He struggled to make a major impact against Stoke. But after his heroics against Derby, it is difficult to see the teenager missing out on many starting lineups between now and the end of the season.
Unfortunately for Clarke, he only played the first-half at the New York Stadium. It was a difficult afternoon for the youngster who was not allowed to weave his magic. He was replaced at the break by Tyler Roberts.
The performance provides a reminder that we cannot get too carried away just yet. Clarke is clearly a player that is going to win Leeds games, but the secret is out.
But his struggles perhaps have one upside for Leeds.
The Sun reported that five Premier League sides want Clarke this month. Based on his Derby performance, it is not difficult to see why.
But after struggling in the last two games, perhaps those top flight sides will feel that Clarke would benefit from staying in the second tier for the time-being.
Leeds’ stance has always been clear: Clarke is not for sale. But an end to speculation in the final days of the window will still be beneficial. And perhaps his slightly more underwhelming displays will inadvertently provide that.
