‘It’s close’: Sky reporter makes exciting claim about Leeds’ McKennie bid

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has suggested that Leeds United’s move for Weston McKennie is edging closer, with the Whites offering £25 million plus add-ons for the American.

McKennie looks to be Leeds’ top target heading into the final days of the window. And there has been progress over the last few days.

Fabrizio Romano reported that he has agreed personal terms with Leeds. Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs suggested that he has spoken with Jesse Marsch and Tyler Adams about a potential move.

Leeds edging closer to Weston McKennie move

Of course, he is not going to come cheap. Solhekol has told Sky Sports that Juventus want £30 million for the 24-year-old.

But Leeds have made an offer for McKennie. And Solhekol suggested that a deal may not be too far away. However, he did suggest that the Whites may be ready to dig their heels in after making their bid.

“The latest we’re hearing from Sky Italy is that Leeds have offered £25m plus add-ons to Juventus for Weston McKennie,” he told Sky Sports.

“Juventus want £30m so it’s close but not close enough at the moment. Leeds aren’t tempted to raise their offer as they don’t feel they have much competition for the player.

“Reports in Italy say Leeds feel the deal could be done by Tuesday. Given Juventus’ financial problems, they aren’t in the market for a replacement but will focus on youth. They are prepared to let him go.”

If Leeds have made such a bid, it would be a surprise if the two sides were not able to reach an agreement. Obviously, much can change, particularly as the deadline looms.

But Leeds’ initial offer is only £5 million away from Juve’s demands for the former Schalke man. And there are further add-ons included, which will take the overall amount much closer.

It is exciting to hear that we are close to securing a deal. A look on social media will tell you that there is a lot of excitement at the thought of adding McKennie to Marsch’s ranks in this window.

He is an outstanding talent with a lot of potential. And he is no stranger to playing alongside Adams either.
