Joel Piroe believes it was really important to get off the mark quickly at Leeds United.

Piroe was speaking to the media ahead of Leeds’ trip to Hull City this evening where he was quizzed on several topics surrounding his start to life at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old made the switch from Swansea City last month in a deal worth around £10.5 million and has not taken long to settle into the team.

Less than 48 hours after his arrival was confirmed, Piroe was handed his full debut away at Ipswich Town in which he took just 19 minutes to open his account for the club.

That has since allowed him to really kick on at Leeds, with his two goal haul at Millwall on Sunday taking his tally to three in as many matches.

For a player in his position, Piroe believes that getting off the mark quickly is something that ‘matters a lot’ in order to maintain his confidence levels.

He said: “It matters a lot. I think it gives you a real boost of confidence like you just want to carry on where you have left off really. That really helped me and to get the wins as well makes it double as good because the boost is not only your own confidence, but also of the team’s.”

An eight-figure transfer fee in the Championship is a significant outlay and so Piroe will have undoubtedly been feeling the pressure to justify his price tag in his early days at Leeds.

Getting off the mark straight away will have certainly done that and laid the platform for him to produce performances like he did at Millwall on Sunday.

There have been several instances in football of strikers struggling at their new club due to not getting on the scoresheet early on, but that has been no problem for Piroe.
