Isaac Schmidt compares Leeds United player to Zinedine Zidane after Saturday’s win over QPR at Elland Road

An eighth win of the Championship season saw Leeds United bounce back from defeat to Millwall earlier this week, with a 2-0 win over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Jayden Bogle and Joel Piroe saw Leeds do just enough without really getting past third gear for most of the match. Bogle opened the scoring in untidy fashion after a goal-mouth scramble.

It came after Brenden Aaronson had an effort that smacked the bar, before his pass found Sam Byram to square to Manor Solomon – only for Byram to be offside. But Piroe came on to score on 95 minutes.

A neat finish that saw Aaronson and Isaac Schmidt combine to find the Dutchman, who scored his sixth goal of the season. Leeds return to second, while it was a second outing for newbie Josuha Guilavogui.

Josuha Guilavogui posts on Instagram after second Leeds victory

Guilavogui joined Leeds in October after Daniel Farke decided Leeds needed a free agent singing in the middle of the park. The seven-time France international made his debut in the 3-0 win over Plymouth.

On Saturday, Guilavogui came off the bench to play the last five minutes against QPR, replacing on-loan Joe Rothwell. The Frenchman posted on Instagram: “Last international break I was home and jobless.

“Today i’m playing for Leeds United and winning at Elland Road. Feel grateful and blessed.”

Guilavogui has brought some defensive solidity in midfield with Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev injured. Rothwell admits Leeds have lost some defensive nous with himself and Ao Tanaka’s Leeds emergence.

Neil Redfearn has described Guilavogui as a “man-mountain” and in his two cameo roles, he has shown that. Strong in the air, winning duels and tidying up what Rothwell and Tanaka might otherwise fail to do.

Schmidt produced his most-effective display since joining Leeds and got an assist for the second, and he compared Guilavogui to Zidane on his Instagram – while Piroe told Guilavogui to “do the dance”.
