Charlie Crew is the subject of a tug of war between Wales and England at the moment and Wales U21 manager Matty Jones has told a press conference he is confident Wales will keep the Leeds talent.
Crew, 17, broke into our U21 side last season and has become a key player this term under Michael Skubala. He has started all six Premier League 2 games so far, and the International Cup win over Nice.
Not only that, but the technically-gifted star has also made his Wales U21 debut this term – winning two caps in the prior break. He was even training with Rob Page’s senior side last month, a signal of intent.
Alongside Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon, with Ampadu excited by the Leeds teen. England have caught wind. The Sun’s Alan Nixon initially reported that England are hoping to snatch him from Wales soon.
Well, Jones has confirmed those reports are true and described England’s approach as “aggressive”. But, he hopes that Crew – after having meetings with the Leeds teen – will choose to stay with Wales.

“I can confirm they are not rumours. England are being very aggressive in their recruitment of players. We have to admire that, because they’re looking to us to recruit players, and that’s a huge compliment.
“With Charlie, we’re reassured we have done absolutely everything in our control. I’m fully confident he’ll stay. We’ve had good meetings with him and his parents, who wanted to make an informed decision.”
Wales U21 manager confident Leeds talent Charlie Crew will stay
Crew is an incredible talent and there is no surprises that England are sniffing around and looking to lure him away from Wales’ clutches. But, Wales are certainly pushing the boat out to keep Crew in a red shirt.
The fact he is already in the 21’s – something he would struggle to do at England level – and is training with the senior Wales side, shows how highly they rate him. Next up, needs to be a Leeds United debut.
