Inter Milan could make surprise move for Leeds United stopper Illan Meslier ahead of the January transfer window – despite the good form of Yann Sommer between the sticks, with the Nerrazzuri.
Sommer, 34, has been sensational for Inter since joining the club in the summer from Bayern – playing 17 times and keeping 10 clean sheets, conceding just nine goals. But, he is 34 and Inter need long term.
Meslier meanwhile, decided to remain at Leeds and has shared why he chose to do so – explaining that he would have felt guilty to leave, like so many did, after the club were relegated to the Championship.
But you would imagine that if a club like Inter came calling, Meslier may find it difficult to turn down. Especially, with there being a long-term path into the first XI, ahead of Sommer. He would be back-up.
Italian reporter Marco Barzaghi, who writes for Sport Mediaset but boasts his own YouTube channel too, told the latter that Meslier is a “possibility” for Inter. His quotes transcribed by Italian site FC Inter 1908.

“Meret, whose contract expires with Napoli, has been offered. There is another possibility: Meslier from Leeds, former French Under 21 player, and a great promise. But Sommer is doing great,” Barzaghi said.
Inter could make surprise move for Leeds stopper Illan Meslier
It would be a fantastic move for Meslier. Sommer turns 35 this month and Inter will have to start thinking about a long-term replacement. Ideally, bringing in their replacement before having to take Sommer out.
Allowing Sommer, a man with supreme experience for club and country, to allow to spread his wisdom on his long-term replacement – someone like Meslier. Would Meslier join Inter initially to be a back-up?
That is the question. But perhaps, at a club like Inter with the path into the starting XI obvious, you may imagine that the French stopper would be tempted. Meslier has a contract at Leeds until June 2026.
