‘Incredible’ Leicester City star set to miss Friday clash with Leeds United, had been on fire until injury

Wilfred Ndidi is set to be absent for Leicester City in the clash with Leeds United on Friday night.

That is according to manager Enzo Maresca, who was speaking before their trip to Queens Park Rangers last weekend, where he revealed he expects Ndidi to be out for ‘some weeks’.

As per Leicestershire Live, Ndidi had initially been ruled out of last week’s 1-0 win over Sunderland through ‘muscle tightness’, however it now appears the injury is more serious.

The 26-year-old had been on fire in midfield prior to his absence in the last two matches, picking up three assists in four matches as Leicester comprehensively defeated Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End and Stoke City.

Unlike Leeds, Leicester were able to keep hold of a vast majority of their squad from the Premier League after relegation, with Ndidi among the ones who surprisingly remained at the club.

However, the Foxes look set to face Leeds without one of their key midfielders, as manager Maresca is expecting him to be out for a few weeks.

He said: “The only one is Wilf, it looks a bit more than tightness that we thought at the beginning. Probably he has to stay out some days or weeks. It’s not an important problem, but it is a muscle problem. We thought it was not important. It’s not a big thing, but at least for some days or some weeks, he’s going to be out.”

Ndidi – who Brendan Rodgers hailed as ‘incredible’ back in 2019 – is undoubtedly a big name to have out for Leicester, but ultimately their squad depth is the best in the league and therefore they will have someone ready to replace him.

Chelsea loanee Cesare Casadei has been starting in his absence over the last two matches, a player the Blues spent a considerable amount of money on in the summer of 2022.

Leeds will need to be at the top of their game, particularly out of possession, if they are to come away victorious on Friday, against a side who have won 13 of their opening 14 matches.
