Willy Gnonto was on absolute fire last night but the Leeds United attacker could easily have had a hat-trick or even more, finishing with a brace – and he left Daniel Farke annoyed at one stage.
That is according to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday, who compiled a list of things that happened off camera. Gnonto was excellent, scoring twice at the Liberty Stadium last night.
His first, cutting inside and slamming an effort home at the near post with his left foot. The second, a nice touch after a pass from Cree Summerville – before firing past Carl Rushworth into the far corner.
It takes Gnonto’s tally to five goals for the season in 28 games – but his fourth since the turn of the year in which he has been given a starting brief. Dan James may now struggle to get back into the side.
The Evening Post report, though, that at times – Gnonto left Farke annoyed and even angry. Indeed, the speedy winger missed a glorious one-on-one chance in the first half, and numerous other opportunities.

“Farke’s annoyance as Gnonto spurned a chance to make it 3-0 inside the opening 20 minutes. When it was 3-0, Farke then clapped his hands angrily after another missed opportunity. He wanted more.”
Daniel Farke left annoyed by Leeds star Willy Gnonto last night
Of course, Farke will have been delighted that Gnonto notched two goals – adding to his tally of just three beforehand. He now has seven goals in total for Leeds, across the space of 52 appearances.
Farke does now have a real headache. Does he keep Gnonto in the side and take advantage of the Italy star’s run of form? Or, does he bring James back into the side, who has a huge 17 goals and assists.
We will find out on Saturday when Leeds have been picked for television once again, another trip to Plymouth after beating them 4-1 after extra-time at Home Park. Leeds will be expected to win again.
