Jack Clarke helped Sunderland beat Leeds United on Tuesday at the Stadium of Light and before the game he spoke of the affection he still holds for his boyhood club – before beating Leeds 1-0.
Clarke, 23, has been superb this season. He has helped Sunderland squeeze themselves into the top six, with 10 goals in 21 Championship games. He came up against teen Archie Gray on Tuesday night.
Ultimately, it was another teenager that won the game – Jobe Bellingham scoring the only goal of the game last night. Jude Bellingham’s younger brother headed in from close range, past Illan Meslier.
Clarke of course, left Leeds in 2019 to join Tottenham – rejoining Leeds for the first six months of the season in which we gained promotion to the Premier League. He played 28 times for our first team.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of last night’s clash – as per the Yorkshire Evening Post – Clarke shared how he still has a lot of affection for Leeds, and how the club remains in his and his family’s heart.
“I’ve obviously got a lot of friends and family that are still Leeds. They still hold a place in my heart but tonight it is different. I’m not trying to upset anybody, hopefully I can win in a Sunderland shirt tonight.”

Clarke has been incredible. A player that looks destined to go and make it in the Premier League, despite a tricky spell at Tottenham in which he only managed four senior outings – and went on loan four times.
Leeds, Stoke, QPR and then Sunderland, before making his move to Wearside a permanent deal. He has been superb for the Black Cats and is proving the potential we saw in his brief time in the senior side.
