The 49ers have a number of key decisions to make in the coming weeks and months with a handful of Leeds United players set to see their contracts expire this summer, and next.
As things stand, June will see Sam Byram, Junior Firpo and Josuha Guilavogui’s contracts come to an end. The trio remain key parts of Daniel Farke’s squad with Firpo scoring two goals in two games for Leeds.
All three of Leeds’ goalkeepers in Illan Meslier, Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns are contracted to Leeds until the summer of 2026. Dan James and Patrick Bamford will also see their contracts expire in 15 months.
So there is plenty of work to be done by The 49ers. Paraag Marathe and The 49ers are busy agreeing a deal to buy Rangers, but there is important work that needs to be done with Meslier’s stance emerging.

Illan Meslier makes decision on Leeds United future
The Frenchman has endured a difficult season. The stats show that Meslier has kept 20 clean sheets in his 35 Championship games, conceding in the last three against Sheffield United, Sunderland and West Brom.
Daniel Farke has had to defend Meslier though, given his mistakes against the likes of Hull, Preston and in the first outing against Sunderland. Now, Ben Jacobs has an update on his future on Give Me Sport’s site.
The transfer expert says that Meslier has decided he would like to stay at Leeds this summer and be the club’s no.1 goalkeeper in the Premier League. Of course, that hinges on Leeds securing promotion.

The 49ers are yet to make a decision on Illan Meslier’s future
Rightly so. Meslier has been Leeds’ no.1 ever since the club were promoted to the Premier League and in fact, he starred in the top tier right up until the final few months before the club were relegated.
But the Championship is an unforgiving place and Meslier has fallen foul on a number of occasions. Leeds will have to make a decision – do they trust Meslier to be the man between the sticks when promoted?
Or, would they rather sign a new goalkeeper. The club are keeping their options for the time being, with Leeds supposedly interested in Aaron Ramsdale among others. If they back Meslier, he needs a new deal.
