If Tete report is true, Leeds are surely about to let Jack Harrison leave club for Leicester

Bizarre news emerged on Friday morning. One of France’s biggest outlets in L’Equipe claimed Leeds are in talks to sign Lyon winger Tete – but if Leeds are signing him, then surely it will see Jack Harrison join Leicester City.

Tete, 22, is only on loan at Lyon. He joined the French side at the end of March from Shakhtar Donetsk – with players based in Ukraine allowed to leave in emergency deals due to the war in Ukraine. He joined Lyon until June 2023.

Lyon have a clause in place for Tete – worth £17.5m. He has starred for the French side. In his 30 games, he has scored 10 goals and laid on eight assists. An impressive return of more than a goal or an assist every two outings.

But L’Equipe say that Leeds are in talks. It is believed that Tete had a clause in his loan that if a Premier League club came calling he could go. The report initially said he was travelling to England – but was removed post-update.

While Leeds are also closing in on Weston McKennie – a player we need, do Leeds need a winger? The Whites signed Georginio Rutter in the summer, a player that is a striker but can play out wide. We have four other options.

Willy Gnonto is undroppable, Cree Summerville has been superb before a couple of injuries. Luis Sinisterra joined the club for £26m as a replacement for Raphinha. Jesse Marsch says Harrison’s form is “incredible” right now.

Gnonto and Summerville are young gems, and not for sale. Sinisterra has only just arrived. But Harrison is in the final 18 months of his contract at Elland Road. The Mail report that Brendan Rodgers wants him at Leicester.

The Mail also say that Leicester have been showing strong interest in Tete. But if Leeds are getting Tete, and given the options we have out wide – surely, it is a sign that Harrison could go? Marsch wants to keep him at Leeds.

But given Leicester wanted Tete and now Leeds are advancing, it might be the Foxes turn to another of their targets in Harrison. An interesting few days ahead, with L’Equipe since update their article at 10:21AM (Details here).
