‘I would’: Harry Redknapp dismisses reports he is open to Leeds job, but would do it

Harry Redknapp has told TalkSPORT (Friday, 9.45AM) that reports of him being open to the Leeds United job have come “out of nowhere” – but “would do it” if he was offered the chance to come out of retirement at Elland Road.

Redknapp, 75, last managed in 2017 at Birmingham City. Since then, he has become a bit of a TV personality. He won ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here – and managed England at Soccer Aid. It would be a massive shock.

But, The Mirror reported on Thursday that ex-Tottenham and West Ham boss had told Leeds he is open to taking the Leeds job. It comes after Leeds have been rejected by a number of bosses since the sacking of Jesse Marsch.

Redknapp himself went on TalkSPORT on Friday morning and was asked if the reports are true. If he was open to joining Leeds. He started initially by making a joke – stating he would do it, but could not miss Cheltenham races.

Then, he spoke seriously about the reports – stating that the Mirror report came out of nowhere. He says he would happily come back in, but there is no chance that Leeds are looking in his direction. So, that seems to be that.

“I would do it, but it would coincide with Cheltenham – but I can’t miss Cheltenham. I’ve got a couple of runners. No, no conversation, don’t know where it came from. I’ve got no idea where it come from,’ Redknapp said.

“I wouldn’t say no anywhere. But I’m not getting the Leeds job, not a chance. I’d want a bonus to keep them up. It’s not rocket science, just get the best out of them,” Redknapp continued, when asked about the Leeds job.

So, while Redknapp has dismissed the reports of a sensational return to management at Leeds – he states that he would be open to taking the Leeds job. But ultimately, and realistically, Leeds are not looking at a move to get him.

Redknapp is known for his man-management and that could be just what Leeds need right now. But after six years without managing a club professionally, it would be a bizarre move. There is no chance Redknapp ends up at Leeds.
