Leeds United earned their eighth consecutive Championship win with a 2-0 victory at Plymouth Argyle.

The Whites had to come through some tough spells in the game to come away with three points against a side who are unbeaten in nine matches on home soil.

Willy Gnonto and Georginio Rutter will once again escape with the plaudits having got themselves on the scoresheet, the former of which has now scored five goals in as many matches.

But it was at the other end where Leeds did arguably the best of their work, earning their seventh clean sheet in this winning run of eight games. A quite incredible record.

Goalkeeper Illan Meslier had a crucial part to play in that and speaking on BBC Radio Leeds after the game, Jon Newsome believes he has just delivered his best performance of the season.

Meslier delivers best performance of season

He said: “Yeah, brilliant. I thought Meslier was outstanding today, one of his top class better performances. I thought his decision making was spot on, he came and punched and cleared his lines when he needed to.

“That catch at the death was fabulous. His kicking was really good, alright there were two or three times where he scuffed it, but you never played a perfect game. But he was at his best today.”

Meslier only made one actual save during the game but it was the command of his area where he really excelled today, which has been something he’s struggled with in recent months.

Plymouth were really crowding him on every set-piece but he was able to deal with them very well, producing three clean punches, as well as a real pressure relieving catch.

Daniel Farke has said a few times this season he thinks Meslier is the best goalkeeper in the division but today’s performance is definitely something he can really build on.
