Coventry City manager Mark Robins has told Coventry Live that he does not expect any immediate developments on the future of Gus Hamer – amid reports Hamer is delaying signing a new deal, with Leeds and Fulham keen on him.
Hamer, 26, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Coventry. It comes after a sensational season in which he had a hand in 21 goals for the Championship side, helping them reach the play-off final – in which Hamer scored.
Now, his future is up in the air. Coventry have been active in the market, selling Viktor Gyokeres but making multiple new signings. Ellis Simms being one from Everton, for a fee of around £7m. It is unclear if Hamer will remain at Cov.
Dutch outlet Voetbal Rotterdam claimed this week that Hamer – who has a new deal on the table – is yet to agree to signing the contract offer due to interest from Leeds, Burnley and Forest. Robins has given a new update on his star.
“Nothing at all and I honestly don’t expect anything to happen. And I will be glad if it doesn’t,” Robins told Coventry Live, when asked for any updates on Hamer’s future in regards to a possible exit – or steps closer to a new contract.
“I have got nothing new to add. That will become clearer as we move forward, but that’s entirely down to Gus. We will keep talking to him and working towards a solution; the best for everybody. Hopefully that will be him staying.”

TeamTalk say Leeds – or any other interested parties – will have to part with a fee of £16m for Hamer, despite him being in the final year of his contract. The 49ers can afford to spend, but must do so within the constraints of FFP.
It might be that Leeds have to cash in on the likes of Willy Gnonto, Illan Meslier or another linked-away player in order to give them the room to spend big on Hamer. Leeds desperately need a 10, having lost Brenden Aaronson.
