‘That’s all’… Leeds United star Archie Gray makes promotion claim ahead of Sheffield Wednesday

As we enter the final 10 Championship matches of the season, Leeds United’s pursuit of an instant return to the Premier League remains very much on track – with Sheffield Wednesday next, tonight.

Sitting in third but with the chance to go second tonight ahead of Ipswich Town, Leeds make the short journey to Hillsborough. It comes after winning 10 of the last 11 league games, picking up 31 points.

Southampton are now six behind Leeds and while they have a game in hand, it looks a tall order for the Saints to get back into contention for the top two at this stage. Their recent form has died off a bit.

Danny Murphy believes it is between Leeds and Ipswich for second behind Leicester – but Gray has told the club’s website that he still feels it is possible that Daniel Farke’s side can finish top of the table.

“The main goal is obvious for everyone. We just need to keep doing our work, keep getting the results and hopefully, the rest will come. We’ve just got to work, get promoted and win the league. That’s all.”

Archie Gray still thinks Leeds United can win the Championship

With Leicester five clear of Leeds but picking up a few defeats of late – including a home loss to QPR – there is every chance that Enzo Maresca’s men are starting to feel the pressure after leading for long.

A win over Wednesday, who are in superb form despite sitting in 23rd place, will be a massive result for Leeds ahead of the weekend. Ipswich then take on Cardiff on Saturday lunchtime, with added pressure.

But lose to Wednesday, and Ipswich will go into their game full of confidence that they can pile the misery on Leeds – after coming from behind to beat Bristol City earlier this week, thanks to Leif Davis.
