After a big win at the weekend, Leeds United take on Middlesbrough this week and have yet another chance to leapfrog Sheffield United.

Leeds United cruised to a comfortable 2-0 victory over old foes Derby County on Saturday thanks to goals from Joe Rodon and Max Wober.

It was a much-needed response from Daniel Farke’s side after losing to Blackburn Rovers seven days previous and they remain in a good position in the Championship title race.

Should Leeds defeat Middlesbrough, who are gunning for a play-off spot themselves and sit in 5th, then they will once again move to the top of the table, with Sheffield United not playing Millwall until the following day.

Leeds United vs Middlesbrough team news

Leeds once again face a lengthy spell without left-back Junior Firpo, who is now facing six weeks on the sidelines after being risked from the start against Derby and lasting just twenty minutes.

Thankfully, Sam Byram is expected to return to the squad after recovering from a knock but Max Wober may get the nod at left-back after his fine performance from the bench on Saturday.

However, Leeds also have issues at right-back with a late check set to be made on Jayden Bogle due to a hamstring problem.

Ethan Ampadu will be hoping for his first start in weeks after returning to the bench at the weekend but Ilia Gruev remains sidelined.

Prediction

Though Leeds have been on a great run of form, there remains a blip in them, typically at the most inopportune times.

Boro are a dangerous outfit who have scored 19 goals in their last six games. Leeds know all too well how free-scoring Michael Carrick’s side can be after they defeated them 3-0 in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

Leeds will have to be at their top of their game to get the three points on Tuesday.

Prediction: Leeds 2-1 Middlesbrough.
