Leeds United will be aiming to put on a more exciting match for their supporters when they take on Cardiff City this weekend.

Monday night saw Leeds United travel to East Lancashire to face Burnley in what promised to be a dramatic clash in the Championship title race.

Instead, a remarkably boring game was served up in which Leeds right-back Jayden Bogle was by far the best and most creative player on the pitch.

Neither side managed to even register a shot on target in the goalless draw until Dan James stung the palms of James Trafford in the 88th minute.

Yet, it was a point that left Daniel Farke satisfied away at a team that have conceded just nine goals this season. It also meant Leeds remained alone at the top of the Championship table, with a three-point advantage on the Clarets.

The fixture has not been selected for television coverage by Sky Sports and kicks off at 3 pm as a result, meaning it is subject to the UK’s football blackout rule.

Leeds could welcome centre-back Pascal Struijk back to the side on Saturday after he returned to training after a knee injury on Tuesday.

There were fears Struijk could be out for months with a tendon tear but the injury wasn’t as bad as feared and he is contention to be in the squad as long as he handles the next two training sessions.

Max Wober is a doubt due to more knee issues and Patrick Bamford is not yet in training.

The manager said in his pre-match press conference: “Back in team training since Tuesday. Right now we have two more days to go.

“If he’s able to handle the load in upcoming days, he’s a topic for the squad. Also, Sam Chambers back in team training, was a few weeks out with knee problems.

“Patrick the only one not back in team training and we had to manage Max Wober this week – his knee made some problems again. These are the two concerns for the game on Saturday.”

Predictions

Though Leeds were heavily restricted by a resolute Burnley defence on Monday, they were still the better side and the only one who looked like scoring. It was a good point on the road and shouldn’t knock their confidence.

Cardiff, however, are actually on a good run themselves having gone eight games unbeaten and are yet to lose in 2025.

Leeds will have to be at their best to break that duck but they should have the quality to do so.
