How Javi Gracia feels about signing a short-term deal at Leeds

Leeds United have received a boost in their pursuit of their next manager, with the Daily Mail reporting that Javi Gracia is understood to be willing to sign a short-term deal at Elland Road.

The Whites have unsurprisingly ramped up their push to land a new boss. Andrea Radrizzani had confirmed that Michael Skubala would oversee the upcoming fixtures ahead of the trip to Everton.

Obviously, that was a vague statement. However, it is safe to assume that they expected to leave Skubala in temporary charge for the game against Southampton at the very least.

Gracia open to short-term deal at Leeds

Unfortunately, the manner of Saturday’s loss to Everton has forced Leeds to change plans once again. Thankfully, it would appear that the Whites hierarchy may be closing in on making an appointment.

Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday that Leeds are in talks with former Watford boss Gracia. And the Daily Mail has now provided a further update on their pursuit of the Spaniard.

According to the report, Leeds are interested in the 52-year-old taking the role for the rest of the campaign. And Gracia is indeed open to taking charge until the summer.

Ultimately, Leeds desperately, desperately need a new manager bounce. And we’re pretty desperate at this point, if that wasn’t clear.

The loss to Everton was the low point in another turgid season. And it was all the more agonising because it does not feel that the board had an alternative plan.

This is not on Skubala at all. Leeds are directionless right now. And Skubala can only do so much having been thrown in.

Names have come and gone from the frame. And we are at the point where Gracia seems a decent choice.

His managerial record does not jump off the page. And he does not have a huge amount of experience in the Premier League. It also says something that he is prepared to sign on until the end of the season.

But something has to change. And if Gracia is able to instil some of the good feeling he had for much of his spell at Watford, it could be a decent choice.
