How Italian media rated Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto in Italy U21 draw with France

One of Leeds United’s most important players is Wilfried Gnonto, and the winger was in action on Friday.

It may be the international break now, but for players like Gnonto who are doing well for their club sides, it is business as usual in terms of playing matches.

Earlier on Friday, the Italy Under-21 side took on their France counterparts in a friendly match. It ended in a 2-2 draw.

Gnonto, who signed a new contract with Leeds in the summer of 2024. started the game for the Italy Under-21 team. The 21-year-old winger was involved in the goal from Cesare Casadei.

The Leeds star could have found the back of the net himself just four minutes into the second half, but he failed to keep his effort on target.

How Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto fared for Italy U21s

Well-known Italian football website Football Italia have given their verdict on Gnonto, who was substituted in the 73rd minute.

Rating the performance of the winger 6 out of 10, Football Italia noted: “Had two chances to score Italy’s third goal early in the second half. One shot was off target, while French keeper Restes saved the other one.”

Wilfried Gnonto is in fine form for Leeds United

Gnonto has been playing well for Leeds this season. He is one of the first names on head coach Daniel Farke’s team when he is fit and available.

The winger has scored two goals and given five assists in 15 Championship matches for Leeds this season.

Gnonto, rated highly by Italy head coach Luciano Spalletti, scored eight goals and provided three assists in 22 Championship starts last season.

Leeds are only two points off the automatic promotion places. For the Whites to finish in the top two of the Championship table this season, Gnonto will have to continue his good form in the coming weeks and months.
