How Burnley players are feeling after failing to take advantage of Leeds United slip-up has been revealed

The promotion race in the Championship has taken a couple of twists and turns over the last fortnight, with Leeds United looking good and the being caught – only to be handed another opportunity.

Wins over Sunderland and Sheffield United saw Leeds open up a five-point gap over Sheffield United, and eight more than Burnley. But Leeds did not capitalise, winning one point from their next possible six.

It saw Sheffield United go level on points with Leeds following the defeat to Portsmouth. Sheffield United and Burnley played on Tuesday night, the chance to both overtake Leeds before Leeds faced Millwall.

However, Bristol City equalised late on against Chris Wilder’s side while Burnley drew with West Brom. It sees Sheffield United go a point above Leeds, but Burnley remain in third, a point behind The Whites.

Zian Flemming shares feeling of Burnley squad after West Brom

Chris Wilder gave a damning verdict of his Sheffield United players after Mark Sykes cancelled out Tyrese Campbell’s goal for The Blades, while Zian Flemming scored for Burnley after John Swift’s super free-kick.

Both sides drew 1-1, when both sides could have pushed Leeds into third ahead of a game against a side that have beaten Leeds twice this term. Flemming told Burnley’s website the squad are “frustrated”.

“We really wanted to win, we knew it could be a massive win as well to jump up the table, especially if you see the results of the other teams now. We’re frustrated every time we can’t get a win,” Flemming said.

“But on the flip side, we also have to be honest and say that we played against a really good side today. We fought as hard as we could, we tried to get the goal and unfortunately, we couldn’t get it today.”

With Sheffield United and Burnley drawing, Leeds now have the chance to go four points clear of third-placed Burnley and two ahead of Sheffield United – before the final game ahead of the March break.

Farke has managed against Millwall 10 times, one of only four teams he has been in the dugout to face on 10 occasions. So far, it is a mixed bag. Five wins, two draws and three defeats – two losses this term.

The pressure is on Leeds, then. Perhaps more so than it was before Sheffield United and Burnley dropped points, given this hands Leeds a real opportunity to steal back control on the race to secure promotion.
