Jermaine Beckford says Glen Kamara has been in “scintillating” form for Leeds United since arriving at the club from Rangers in the summer – but, says he needs to improve his finishing in front of goal.

Kamara, 28, has started 10 of the last 12 Championship matches, forming a wonderful partnership with Ethan Ampadu in the middle of the park. The Finland ace is looking a real bargain at a fee of just £6m.

He starred again on Saturday, during our 3-2 win over Middlesbrough. The ex-Arsenal man’s ability to offer both defend and attack, and his quality in transition, is really helping Daniel Farke’s midfield tick.

Beckford spoke to Leeds United’s Matchday Live show before Saturday’s game and he said Kamara – along with Ampadu and Archie Gray – have been “scintillating” this season. But, he has a criticism, too.

He says that Kamara has got to improve his finishing. Indeed, the Fin has had chances to score but is yet to do so, with goalscoring not really a feature of his career. He scored nine in 193 Rangers games.

“Very impressed. The partnership with Ampadu is fantastic. They offer so much, little bit of creativity too. Enjoyed watching them. Friendship off the pitch helps create trust moments on it,” Beckford said.

“Gray was unbelievable in midfield, he got moved out and Kamara and Ampadu filled in. Scintillating, I hope to see him score. He’s had one or two chances, he’s rushed it a little bit. Needs to take his time.”

Jermaine Beckford: How ‘scintillating’ Glen Kamara can improve

Kamara has been wonderful. His experience, quality and leadership has made him one of the first names on the team sheet at the moment, and with a week’s break, he will surely be starting against Blackburn.

If Leeds are going to do anything this season, it is about keeping our best players fit and Kamara – along with the likes of Ampadu, Georgie Rutter, Cree Summerville, Gray, Joe Rodon and more – are on that list.
