Crysencio Summerville has been in sparkling form for Leeds United this season and Junior Firpo feels proud at the man Summerville has become – feeling he’s played a part in his development.

Summerville, 22, has starred for Leeds this season, having a hand in 11 goals in his 13 Championship outings. He is more than likely to start on Friday night, as Leeds take on Rotherham away from home.

Until this season, Summerville had struggled to hold down a regular place in the Leeds side. His best run in the side came last term under Jesse Marsch, scoring four in four games in a row before Christmas.

But, the Dutch talent could not retain his place in the side on a regular basis. It meant that he could not gain any momentum. This term, Daniel Farke has made him first choice in his promotion-hunting side.

Firpo spoke about Summerville in the latest Leeds United podcast and said that he is delighted to see the £1.3m signing start to shine in a Leeds shirt – having always just wanted to dribble at defenders.

“Cree, since I’ve been here, he’s always been with the first team – how he has changed the way he behaves, he is a man now. He wants to win, score. He doesn’t want to dribble all the time,” Firpo said.

“Before he wanted to dribble all the time. Now he wants to score, assist. That’s great. When you see young players change like that, you feel really proud because everyone played a part,” he continued.

Summerville has gone from being an exciting prospect that normally warms the Leeds bench – to a player that is going to be key for Leeds this season. Perhaps, crucial for Leeds over the next few years.

Hopefully, Leeds can keep hold of Summerville and grow alongside the Dutchman’s growing ambition. If Leeds are going to keep Summerville beyond this season, then promotion to the Premier League is key.
