American pundit Eric Wynalda has told The Action Network’s Wondergoal Podcast that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford “sucks” and he is not Premier League standard – as he analysed the club’s recent form under Javi Gracia.
Obviously, Jesse Marsch has since been sacked but Leeds remain very much under the watchful eye of American media – with Brenden Aaronson, Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams in the side. The 49ers are close to a takeover.
Bamford has not been at his best – far from it. But the striker, who was missing against Liverpool, has endured a dismal couple of years through injury. This term, he has just three goals in 22 – compared to the 18 he got in 20-21.
Wynalda, who played for a handful of German clubs including VFL Bochum and a number of MLS sides like Chicago Fire, was incredibly critical of the striker. He said Bamford “sucks”, and is not a Premier League standard player.

“Jesse learned the hard way, Gracia has the same problem. The midfielders like Aaronson and McKennie have their heads on a swivel. Bamford sucks. He is not a Premier League forward. They’re going to need Harrison to step up.”
Wynalda: Leeds star Bamford sucks and is not Premier League standard
While it is harsh in his actual analysis, it is hard to argue that Bamford has been below the standard which Leeds require at this moment in time. Rodrigo has come in and been excellent in his place, but then picked up an injury.
It has been a problem for much of the second half of the season. Indeed, it contributed to Jesse Marsch’s sacking. With Bamford touch and go for Saturday at Fulham, Rodrigo is likely to start. Leeds need Georgie Rutter to shine.
