Harry Wilson update will not go down well with Leeds United fans

Leeds came close to signing Harry Wilson from Fulham on transfer deadline day in the summer.

An approach was initially made to sign the Wales international on loan, before talks escalated and became centered around a permanent deal as the minutes ticked away – even leading Leeds to submit a deal sheet to the Premier League.

A move for Harry Wilson ultimately failed to materialise, but Beren Cross of The Athletic has now provided an update after being asked whether a January deal is possible.

Beren Cross pours cold water on hopes of another Leeds swoop for Harry Wilson

By the sounds of it, Leeds will only make another move for the Fulham No.8 depending on circumstances come January.

Cross wrote that Leeds might consider another bid for Wilson if an injury crisis were to occur under Daniel Farke in the attacking department between now and January.

It is also said that Leeds are already at their limit in terms of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) projection, so sales would need to be made before a renewed move for the Fulham forward takes place.

So, it very much sounds like the answer is no unless a lot happens at Elland Road in the coming weeks, which is sure to irk some Leeds fans given the need for a new winger on the right flank.

Wilson does – however – see his contract expire in July and is currently leaving Fulham as a free agent at the end of the season.

Therefore, the Cottagers need to get a new deal finalised before the winter transfer window, or else the 28-year-old may well have his head turned by offers from elsewhere.

Where Fulham are currently at with Harry Wilson contract

Speaking in June, Wilson – who Jermaine Beckford admires – said: “We are in talks for a new deal… my main option would be to sign a new deal at Fulham and hopefully we can get to an agreement on that.”

Fulham boss Marco Silva provided an update in September, revealing: “I know how much he wants to stay in the football club. Of course, conversations, they are there, with conversations between us and his representatives as well, and let’s see what is going to happen.

“I know really the aim of him is to stay in the football club and if he can get an agreement, his future is going to be with us, 100% sure.”

However, those comments came over a month ago now, so the longer Fulham go without announcing a new deal for Wilson, Leeds will feel they have a chance in January.
