Harry Redknapp is reportedly open to joining Leeds United on an interim basis until the end of the season and Aaron Lennon’s verdict on his Tottenham boss in 2008 could be a sign that Leeds’ attackers would thrive under Redknapp.
With Leeds yet to bring in a manager, finding that those in work do not want to join the club given our position in the league table – the club have decided to keep Michael Skubala in the position. He is to take charge of his third game.
But The Mirror state that Redknapp has informed Leeds that he would be willing to come out of retirement to take the job at Leeds until the end of the season. Redknapp last managed in 2017, six years ago, a stint at Birmingham City.
His experience and credentials are evident – but his time out of work is a concern. Redknapp has become somewhat of a TV personality – managing England at Soccer Aid, and winning ITV’s hit show, I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
But, speaking in 2008 after Redknapp came in at Tottenham to replace Juande Ramos. Ex-Leeds winger Lennon was full of praise. He says that he immediately improved under Redknapp and gave license to players like him in the final third.
“I’ve been getting better since the new boss came in,” Lennon told Sky Sports in 2008. “It’s not just me, it’s everyone in general, he’s given us confidence and freedom to play. He’s given me license to get at people. That’s my game really.”

It would be an utterly bizarre move. Six years out of the game, the chances of Leeds considering Redknapp are almost zero. But, Lennon’s comments do suggest that there could be an immediate bounce if Redknapp came in as manager.
Many have spoken about Redknapp’s man management. Given he is a legend in English football, plenty of players would be excited to work with him. His ability to get the best out of players would give Leeds every chance of safety.
