Graham Smyth says who is better out of Jayden Bogle and Rasmus Kristensen after Leeds United agreement

It came out of the blue somewhat on Wednesday afternoon, but Leeds United have confirmed the sale of Rasmus Kristensen on a permanent basis to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Rasmus Kristensen, who is preparing for a Europa League quarter-final second leg against Tottenham in Germany tonight, has impressed with the Bundesliga side while on loan at Robin Koch’s team this term.

It is now three years since Kristensen initially joined Leeds in the summer of 2022, one of a number of players signed by Jesse Marsch that he had worked with before – like Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober.

But he struggled in the Premier League, playing 30 times and instantly using Victor Orta’s loan clause to get out of Leeds when relegated. Leeds used 60 words in their statement confirming Kristensen’s exit.

Indeed, Kristensen was one of eight players to use the clause and get out of Leeds, joining Roma. But last summer, that clause remained active for Kristensen and Jack Harrison – the latter rejoining Everton.

Kristensen swapped Roma for Frankfurt and has not looked back, playing a key part in Frankfurt’s climb to third in the Bundesliga and a possible Europa League semi-final. An initial £5.1m fee could rise to £7.7m.

Following Kristensen’s permanent move to Frankfurt which will become active on July 1, Graham Smyth reacted to the news on the Inside Elland Road podcast – saying Jayden Bogle is an upgrade at just £5m.

“To potentially make £7.7m, is not a bad result,” Smyth said, discussing Kristensen’s permanent move to Frankfurt. “Not when you’ve upgraded at right-back for £5m in Bogle. Kristensen doesn’t get in this team.

“That’s the long and short of it, he was never coming back. Bogle’s ceiling is higher than Rasmus’, his technical ability, his attacking threat is far better. He’s quicker as well,” Smyth continued on Kristensen.

There is no doubt that Kristensen had it harder if comparing the two right-back’s spells at Leeds. The Dane joined a Premier League side tactically inept under Marsch, fighting to stay in the Premier League.

Bogle meanwhile, has been part of a side expected to win every week and the emphasis is very much on attack. However, Bogle has proved to be one of Daniel Farke’s best buys since he became Leeds boss.

The true comparison will come in the Premier League, and whether Bogle can continue his brilliant form in a Leeds shirt against the country’s best next season. But the bar is low, compared to Kristensen.
