Graham Smyth has told the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Inside Elland Road podcast that The 49ers are desperate to appoint a manager at Leeds United – and want to make an announcement ‘badly’. But, they are waiting for the EFL.
It is unclear if the 49ers have to wait for the EFL, before making a decision on a new manager. But that seems to be the approach they are taking. Despite, Andrea Radrizzani already picking Andrea Pirlo as his new Sampdoria gaffer.
Daniel Farke is widely expected to take over at Leeds over the course of the next few days, before pre-season starts on Sunday. Leeds will want to have a manager in place by then, and the futures of his backroom staff sorted out.
You would like to think that Leeds have got that done over the last fortnight since the agreement between the 49ers and Radrizzani. Smyth says The 49ers are ‘badly’ wanting to announce a new manager, as they continue to wait.
“The legal position is that Radrizzani still owns Leeds United, he’s the majority owner, majority shareholder, so any appointment or major decisions would have to go through him. I’m guessing he’d have to give the green light.
“It’s just frustrating for everyone, I mean, the 49ers aren’t sitting there happily kicking their heels. They want this announced as badly as anyone so they can get on with announcing other things,” Smyth told Inside Elland Road.

Having to go back through Radrizzani to announce a manager will be a frustration. While asking the Italian is likely to end in a yes, given Radrizzani is fully focused on Sampdoria, The 49ers will be keen to do it under their own steam.
All Leeds and the club’s fans can do is wait. Wait until the EFL finally get the job done and ratify the takeover from Radrizzani to 49ers. There is a hope that it can get done in the next hours, and Farke is in place this weekend.
