Graham Smyth responds when asked if Leeds will now sign new left-back

Leeds United are not currently pursuing a move to sign a new left-back.

That is according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, who was responding to a Leeds supporter on Twitter regarding the possibility of one coming in.

Smyth claimed that a left-back is not currently something that is ‘on the agenda’ at the moment, but did add that could change if a decent opportunity crops up.

As per Phil Hay earlier this week, Leeds had lodged two enquiries for Leicester City left-back Luke Thomas, however he has since moved to Sheffield United.

Burnley’s Charlie Taylor has also been linked throughout the summer but given their own struggles to find a new left-back, that one looks unlikely.

Smyth says left-back not on Leeds ‘agenda’

Writing the response on Twitter, Smyth suggested that ‘all the noise’ at this stage would indicate a left-back will not be coming in this summer.

He said: “Not on the agenda right now. Always wary of saying they will or won’t do something because you don’t know what’ll pop up. But the noise right now suggests they aren’t doing a LB.”

If this does happen to be the case, this would put a slight dampener on what has been a highly successful window on the whole.

Leeds do have Junior Firpo and Sam Byram as their out and out options in that position, but both are currently out injured and that could well be the case quite often this season.

Leo Hjelde also looks as though he could well be on his way out on loan and so let’s hope something that is too good to turn down crops up for Leeds in the final few hours of the window.
