Leeds United have allowed numerous first team players to leave on loan this summer, with more expected to follow.
But according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth, that will help Leeds in the transfer market, explaining why on the latest Inside Elland Road Podcast.
Frustrations have been building among supporters so far this summer with four of the five first team players to have left having only moved on loan.
Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen have all departed Elland Road so far this summer on temporary deals, none of which include an option-to-buy.
Marc Roca is also expected to follow that quartet by leaving on loan, again without a permanent clause, despite Real Betis’ desire to include one.
Smyth explains why loan exits will help Leeds
Leeds are yet make any new signings so far this summer but it was always important to move some on before doing so.
While Leeds haven’t brought much in the way of transfer fees in, Smyth has explained why shifting players out on loan will give them wriggle room in the transfer market.
He said: “What these exits have done has created some headroom when it comes to profit and sustainability so that Leeds can then be quite aggressive when it comes to the players they bring in and their wages.”
Leeds will have undoubtedly got rid of some of their biggest earners this summer, with all the players who have left on loan having moved to the Whites for substantial transfer fees.
That will therefore give them space to not only keep some big players, but also offer any potential new incomings with decent contracts in order to help prise them to Elland Road.
