Gjanni Alioski’s form in recent months has seen the Leeds winger come in for a lot of criticism. The Macedonia international has not scored or provided an assist since early October.
It has surprised many just how much faith Marcelo Bielsa has shown in Alioski. He has started every Championship game this season despite really struggling to impress for a while.
But after the win against Aston Villa on Sunday, it has become clear why Bielsa does believe in him.
Leeds came from 2-0 down to claim their most impressive win of the season, with Kemar Roofe scoring a stoppage-time winner to secure a 3-2 victory. The three points has taken Bielsa’s men back to the top of the Championship.
And the game was arguably Alioski’s best performance for a long time. The 26-year-old got stuck in and provided some much-needed creativity when Villa stormed into a 2-0 lead.
Some of his crosses were superb. That has not always been the case this term, but he asked plenty of questions of the Villa defence when he looked to get the ball into the box.
Alioski played a key role in Leeds’ stunning turnaround. So that decision to stick by the winger now looks like yet another brilliant move from Bielsa.
