The enthusiasm and optimism of Leeds United’s win against Everton in the first Premier League game of the season has evaporated in the space of four days, after two dismal defeats.
Leeds will have expected to lose against Arsenal on Saturday and they did. Paul Merson said it was a “free hit” for Leeds after beating Everton and he was right, though there is a right way to lose. 5-0, is not that.
Daniel Farke’s men were completely outplayed at The Emirates, lacking fight or ideas. But, on Tuesday, Leeds had the ideal chance to put things right against a Sheffield Wednesday side in complete disarray.
But this is Leeds United, and things are never simple. Jayden Bogle equalised after a Karl Darlow own goal as Wednesday’s youngsters kept Leeds at bay. Leeds lost on penalties, and fans are growing concerned.

Gabby Agbonlahor is worried for Leeds United after two defeats
Agbonlahor is a renowned wind-up when it comes to Leeds, but many disgruntled supporters will agree with the Aston Villa icon and TalkSPORT legend in his latest verdict. He thinks Leeds will suffer relegation.
Agbonlahor also went through the Leeds side and does not believe Farke’s men have enough quality to survive, even questioning Lucas Perri. Perri is the club’s third-most-expensive signing at £15.6m.

He told TalkSPORT (27/08, 6.40AM) he’s “not sure” about Perri and relegation is a “definite”: “I watched Leeds against Arsenal, they were very poor. I know it’s Arsenal and you can’t look at those games.
“But I think all over the pitch – defensively, I’m not sure about the goalkeeper, attacking-wise – I think Leeds will definitely go back down. I don’t think they’ve got enough, at all,” Agbonlahor said on Leeds.
Six days left in transfer window – what do Leeds United need?
Ao Tanaka is set to be out injured for the next few weeks, joining Ethan Ampadu on the sidelines and that has taken Leeds’ midfield options from five to three. Before Monday’s deadline, a midfielder is needed.
Maybe one on loan. Just to give Leeds a bit of depth like Josuha Guilavogui provided when Ampadu and Gruev got injured last season. Leeds remain in the market for an attacking signing and that is needed.

Tuesday night proved that. Calvert-Lewin isn’t ready, Joel Piroe has struggled so far and Lukas Nmecha is injury-prone. Perhaps an attacker that can play in behind and out wide, as well as playing up front, too.
